October 17 through 20 will be the annual gathering for AUBER’s Fall conference. Conference headquarters this year will be the Driskill Hotel, www.driskillhotel.com. There will be exciting panels for communicators and directors on projects and product innovations, along with great opportunities to hear about and share ways for centers to thrive in the challenging market of the 2009/10. AUBER Alert The Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development (BBRED) at Georgia Southern University is not going to be able to renew the contract for AUBER business management services. The AUBER Board is requesting proposals for business management/Secretary-Treasurer services. The Request for Proposals will be available shortly. However, if you think you center or bureau might consider proposing, please contact Dr. Eric Thompson at thhompson2@unl.edu. Second Annual LEARN Conference The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta announces its second annual LEARN Conference. It will be a tight squeeze to make both the LEARN and the Fall Conference, but it can be done. The LEARN Conference this year will be at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta on October 15 and 16. If you have any questions, call Mike Chriszt at 404-498-8847 or email Michael.Chriszt@atl.frb.org.Atlanta Fed Announces May Conference The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has announced a May 15-16 conference on Quantitative Approaches to Monetary Policy in Open Economies. The conference will feature leading specialists in monetary policy from around the world. The tentative program includes: Lars Svensson, Deputy Governor, Sveriges Riksbank-Sweden; Carlos Montoro, Banco Central de Reserva del Peru; Ippei Fujiwara, Bank of Japan; as well as Tom Sargent of New York University and Chris Sims of Princeton University. Wichita State University Wichita State University has announced that it has hired Mr. Jeremy Hill as the Director of the Center for Economic Development and Business Research (CEDBR). Mr. Hill was previously the Director of the Coastal Rivers Water Planning and Policy Center at Georgia Southern University with prior experience as the Assistant Director of the Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development (BBRED) also at Georgia Southern University. Mr. Hill, originally a Kansas native, was excited to have an opportunity that took him back to his home state. He took over the reins at CEDBR on May 15. He can be reached at jeremy.hill@wichita.edu. C2ER Makes Historical Data Available for Research C2ER is making available the data set from which it builds its cost of living index. Many of you will know this as the AACRA Cost of Living Index. The data set is quarterly observations from 1990 to present and is recognized as one of the definitive sources of information on the cost of living for small and mid-size urban areas. - Quarterly local prices for more than 60 goods and services; and, - Coverage of more than 300 communities. Unfortunately, this year you will not be able to both at the same time and place. An outside organization will be handling the conference registrations for the University of Texas at Austin. That organization will only be able to accept your conference registration fees. The business office will be the only location where you will be able to pay your membership dues.
