Building Partnerships for the Future:
AUBER's 58th Annual Conference Recap

AUBER's 58th annual conference, held in Tucson, October 17-19, will go down in the AUBER history book as one of our most successful and fun conferences to date. The conference program, organized by Janet Speyrer, University of New Orleans, and Rennae Daneshvary, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was diverse and interesting. Session topics ranged from land use and the environment to how AUBER units earn money, border issues, and enhancement and promotion of economic outlook conferences. In addition, sessions were held on the U.S. economic forecast, the use of federal statistics, how to get the most out of the BLS web site, successful center marketing practices, tips on effective publication and web site design, competitiveness and innovation in key business sectors, and much more. Some of our special guests included Rosemary Marcuss, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and NABE president; Duncan Meldrum, Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. and former NABE president; David Wyss, Standard & Poor's; Jack Kleinhenz, Kleinhenz & Associates; and Joseph Curry, Sawtooth Technologies. Of course, everyone enjoyed the second annual AUBER poster session. Thank you to all the session organizers and presenters for their hard work and great presentations!

If you were unable to attend the conference, a summary of the conference, along with more than 25 conference presentations, are
available on the AUBER web site (www.auber.org).

At our opening reception, held at the Eller College of Management, The University of Arizona's Sonido de Mexico Mariachi band treated guests to a taste of "Old Mexico." The weather in Tucson cooperated beautifully for the annual AUBER field trip to the San Xavier Mission and the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. Conference attendees had a lovely afternoon wandering through the beautiful desert landscape, viewing mountain lions, wolves, bears, prairie dogs, hummingbirds, hawks, otters, and rattlesnakes in their natural settings. Dinner was served outside on the terrace against the backdrop of a southwestern sunset. Attendees were serenaded by The Desert Sons western band.

Many thanks to our hosts at The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University for an outstanding conference! For those of you who couldn't attend, we hope to see you next year in Montana!
