News from the President

Energy, the theme of this fall's AUBER conference in Missoula, is also the word that describes why AUBER members are so successful. We have all learned to do more with (much) less; however, the budget situations in many states across the nation are looking up. These new funds represent new opportunities and, hopefully, a bit less fear for survival as university administrations make difficult budget decisions. Nonetheless, in order to remain vitally important to our universities, we must use our creative energy to add new clients by stretching what we do, while renewing our successful contracts with others.

We also have the option use our energy to support AUBER. The new Marketing and Communications Committee illustrates that people at all levels of membership want to be involved. Volunteer to work on an AUBER committee; talk to an officer about participating as a member of the AUBER Board; welcome a new member; mentor a small center director.

Oh, we can't forget energy and fun! I expect our fall conference in Missoula to be one of our best. Energy will be everywhere: in Jerry Conover and Stephen Smith's program, in Paul Polzin's fabulous local arrangements, and, of course, in the AUBER hospitality suite.

So, while energy prices remain near record levels, the energy level in AUBER is at a peak, too. I can't wait to see you all in Missoula. Make your plans early.
