AUBER 2005: Missoula

AUBER's annual fall meeting will be held in Missoula, Montana, October 8-11. The conference hotel is the Holiday Inn-Parkside. It is located on the bank of the Columbia River's Clark Fork. Conference program planners Jerry Conover and Stephen Smith are putting together an exciting array of topics and sessions.

Fall Conference to be an Energizing Experience

This fall's conference program is shaping up to be an energizing professional development experience for AUBER members. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman has been invited to address the conference on the crucial influence of energy on today's economy, and additional presentations are planned on energy as a cost of doing business, forecasting energy prices, and related issues.

ASU Online Resource Offers Latest in Business Information

Knowledge@W. P. Carey, an online business publication with a searchable business knowledge database, was launched May 11 at http://knowledge.wpcarey.asu.edu. The publication, from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, brings the research-based insights of the school's faculty to readers in the language of the boardroom, the office, and the marketplace.

Borderplex Long-Term Economic Trends to 2024 Published

The University of Texas at El Paso announces the publication of the 2005 edition of its primary source of long-term border business outlook information. Topics covered include detailed economic projections for El Paso and Las Cruces, plus maquiladora forecasts for Ciudad Ju‡rez and Ciudad Chihuahua.

Welcome to AUBER!

Center at ULM Closing

The Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Louisiana at Monroe will be closing as a result of a reorganization of the College of Business Administration. The center housed AUBER's Secretary-Treasurer's Office from 1997-2001, with center director Jerry Wall as secretary-treasurer and then-staff member Dee Jones as business office manager. Wall served as AUBER president in 2002-03.

The AUBER Newsletter is a quarterly publication of the Association for University Business and Economic Research.

Energy, the theme of this fall's AUBER conference in Missoula, is also the word that describes why AUBER members are so successful. We have all learned to do more with (much) less; however, the budget situations in many states across the nation are looking up. These new funds represent new opportunities and, hopefully, a bit less fear for survival as university administrations make difficult budget decisions. Nonetheless, in order to remain vitally important to our universities, we must use our creative energy to add new clients by stretching what we do, while renewing our successful contracts with others.
