Director of the center since 1995, Berger coordinated several research projects, including analyses of the state's unemployment insurance, Medicaid, cash-assistance programs, taxation in Kentucky, and regional economic development. He is survived by his wife, Pam, and three children.

"Walking in Memphis." Cindy DiPersio, University of Colorado at Boulder; Carol Griffen, University of Florida; and Dee Jones, formerly with the University of Louisiana at Monroe, recently met in Memphis to renew friendships. Stephen Smith, University of Memphis, hosted the gathering. The group toured the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Memphis, which is headed by John Gnuschke, and enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of Memphis.
