Research Communicators Corner
The Value of AUBER
Few would dispute how the evolving landscape of higher education,
state fiscal policies, and technology has affected the operation
of bureaus around the country. Think back to your bureau five
years ago. The nature of your work, the tools you use, the
people you work with, and your operating environment have
likely changed. But one thing hasn't changed: the value of
AUBER.
AUBER is a group of highly skilled academic-based professionals
that has developed into a close-knit collection of economists,
IT professionals, MIS specialists, marketers, communication
experts, writers, editors, and support staff. Most AUBER units
produce research that is highly visible and often quoted by
the regional and national media.
The value of AUBER is in its network of members. This network
generates the exchange of ideas and practical experience between
professionals, and also provides opportunities for peer mentoring
and support. AUBER members find the membership dues and convention
fees to be a wise and relatively low-cost investment in their
professional careers.
This year's fall conference in Missoula, Montana, promises
to be a great opportunity to enjoy the AUBER experience. Jerry
Conover and I are organizing the conference program, and are
open and welcome to all suggestions concerning sessions from
the membership. Plan now to attend and see how valuable AUBER
can be to you.
And don't forget the NABE/AUBER spring conference in Washington,
D.C., on March 21 and 22!
See you in Washington and Missoula.
