News from the President
The NABE/AUBER Spring Policy Conference
emphasized current economic policies, such as Social Security
reform, private pension reform, tax reform, health care, international
trade initiatives, and others. The AUBER sessions were well
attended and provided diversity in the conference coverage.
The hospitality suite was popular, too, attracting new friends
from NABE and CABE.
During the spring meeting, the AUBER
Board established a marketing committee. Jerry Conover will
act as chair of this committee. The purpose of this group
is to promote AUBER externally to enhance AUBER’s visibility
and importance in the university community and beyond. The
committee will also cooperate with the Membership Committee
and others to promote the value of AUBER to potential AUBER
members.
Soon you will receive a survey about
prospective topics for the fall meeting. The survey gives
you a chance to participate in final determination of topics
chosen for the program. I urge you to participate in the survey,
so that the program will satisfy the needs of your unit’s
staff. I am already excited about the fall program. It has
so many great things for me, and it has a number of topics
that will interest my staff. Thanks to Jerry Conover, Stephen
Smith, and their committee for their dedicated effort.
Remember, the fall conference is in
Missoula, Montana, on October 8-11. Paul Polzin has a number
of wonderful things in store for us. The weather is likely
to be delightful. I know we are going to see mountains and
bison; these are not the usual sights in Louisiana. And I
know there will be another great hospitality suite.
