AUBER
2005: Missoula
October in Missoula! There is likely
to be a dusting of snow on the mountaintops. The aspen
and the larch will be in full color. Under a clear sky,
the highs will be in the upper sixties. Missoula is
a perfect place for AUBER’s annual fall meeting,
scheduled for October 8–11.

Model Analysis for Evaluating Renewable Portfolio Standards
for State Utilities
Each year, more states adopt goals
for minimum use of renewable resources in the production
of electrical power sold, so-called renewable portfolio
standards (RPS). In April 2003, a task force in New
Jersey recommended that the Class I renewable resources
in that state’s RPS be ramped up from the current
4% to a level of 20% by the year 2020. A report conducted
by a new AUBER member organization at Rutgers University
for New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities analyzed

BEA Statistics Update
BEA released the comprehensive
revision of gross state product (GSP) in December 2004,
and that release included prototype accelerated estimates
of total GSP for 2003 an acceleration of 6 months from
previous release schedules. If resources permit, BEA
is planning to release accelerated estimates of total
GSP for 2004 in June 2005—speeding up the release
of these estimates by a full 12 months. In the fall
of 2005, BEA plans to release accelerated estimates
of real and current-dollar total GSP (revised) and GSP
for NAICS-based industry groups for 2004. For more information,
go to http://www.bea.gov/bea/regional/gsp.htm.
