DUNCAN H. MELDRUM, PhD
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Duncan Meldrum is the Chief Economist for
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a $5.5 billion industrial
gas and chemicals company serving customers in over 30 countries.
As Chief Economist, he assesses the impact of the economic
environment on the company's performance for the executive
management team and develops global economic assumptions
for the company's operating plans. He provides operating
groups with pricing assistance, contract support and market
analyses. He also serves as the company's economics spokesperson.
Meldrum joined the company in 1979 as an analyst in the management
sciences department, became manager of the applied economics
and statistics group in 1983, and senior economist in 1984.
He assumed his present position in the Corporate Development
Office in 1992. Prior to joining Air Products, Meldrum served
on active duty in the U.S. Navy as an aviator and operations
research specialist.
He received a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in
1973, a M.S. degree in Operations Research from the U.S. Naval
Postgraduate School in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Economics from
Lehigh University in 1992.
Meldrum was elected President of the National Association
for Business Economics (NABE) for the year beginning September
2003. He has published a number of articles in Business Economics,
the professional journal of the association, covering topics
such as country risk analysis and the practice of business
economics at an industrial firm.
He is a member of the Advisory Committee to the U.S. Census
Bureau. He serves on the Board of Directors of the APCI Federal
Credit Union and the nonprofit Parkette National Gymnastics
Center. His other professional associations include the Conference
of Business Economists, the National Business Economic Issues
Council, and the American Economics Association. He is married
and has four children and one grandchild.
